LET’S SPOT BIRDS

This small series was inspired by a phrase my daughter used to say when she was very little. We would lie in bed together in the morning, looking out of the window, and she would say, “Let’s spot birds, Mummy.”

One weekend in the studio we painted birds side by side — she worked on her own paintings while I made these. I love watching birds: the way they dot around, chatter and play together, their lives seeming so simple and light. When you stop to watch birds you are completely in the present, and spotting birds feels like such a small, joyful thing to do.
